The Game

MSTC is a free, local Sepak Takraw community being built in Malitbog, Southern Leyte. It exists for one simple reason: the game is better when it's shared.
Sepak Takraw here is not only about competition. It's about people — friendship, skill, teamwork, mentorship, and community. It's the veteran who hasn't touched a rattan ball in years. The student who wants somewhere positive to be after class. The beginner who has never served but wants to try.
We are community- and peer-supported: experienced players helping beginners, neighbors showing up for each other, and a court that belongs to everyone.

Sepak Takraw is played a bit like volleyball — but instead of hands, players use their feet, knees, chest, and head to send a woven ball over the net. It looks spectacular, and it starts simple.
The three basic roles
Tekong
The server — kicks the ball over the net to start each rally.
Feeder
The setter — controls the ball and sets it up for the attack.
Striker
The attacker — spikes the ball over the net, often with an acrobatic kick.

08 Our Roots
From Sipa
to Sepak Takraw
Long before modern courts and nets, Filipinos were already keeping a woven ball in the air.
Sipa — from the Filipino word for "kick" — is a traditional game generations of Filipinos grew up with: a rattan or washer ball, kept aloft with feet, knees, and head, played in streets, schoolyards, and barangay plazas. Many of the veterans MSTC hopes to welcome back first learned to control a ball exactly this way.
Across Southeast Asia, that shared tradition grew into the sport now known as Sepak Takraw — the name itself joins the Malay word sepak ("kick") and the Thai word takraw ("woven ball"). Played over a net with no hands allowed, it is one of the most spectacular sports in the region, and a point of pride for the Philippines in international competition.
For Malitbog, the connection is natural: the footwork of sipa is the foundation of Sepak Takraw. MSTC carries that heritage onto the court — and passes it to the next generation.
